HAYP 6.0: Lips of Pride

From April 8 to 18, HAYP Pop Up Gallery presented its 6th contemporary art exhibition, “Lips of Pride”, which focuses on the theme of women’s sexuality and societal perceptions of shame in Armenia.

“Lips of Pride” aims to begin a discussion on a taboo topic, and to give a voice to those whom are often silenced.

HAYP asked 25 women artists from Armenia and abroad to share their perspectives on the intertwined topics of sexuality, pleasure, shame, femininity, identity, discrimination and injustice within a patriarchal culture.

Using different media – from video to photography, painting, sculpture and installation –  the artists showed the curent state of gender equality, whether it’s in the private sphere (our homes, our beds, our dark-windowed cars) or the public sphere.

The exhibit opened on April 8, 2016, and lasted 10 days.

This project was realized in the frames of the “Regional Art and Culture Project in the South Caucasus”, which is managed by the Culture and Management Lab with financial support of the Swiss Cooperation Office for the South Caucasus (SCO). The project also received financial support from Armenian International Women’s Association – Los Angeles.
